Do you offer free consultations?

We will certainly try and answer some of your questions over the phone when you first call in. We don’t understand attorneys who won’t even talk to a prospective client before charging them. We want you to know, before you decide to hire us, that our attorney-client relationship will be a good fit.

How do attorneys bill?

At Izzo & Associates, we have various billing methods based on the type of work we do for you. These are “hourly,” “flat-fee,” and “contingency.”

Most family law, probate, and small business cases are “hourly” cases, which means that we charge for the amount of time we work on the case. In some cases we will require that a retainer fee be paid upfront before work begins on a case. At our firm, we then bill out of your retainer using our hourly rate whenever work is done on your case. At the end of your case, we will refund any remaining balance in your retainer back to you. We do not have non-refundable retainer fees.

Most criminal and estate planning cases are “flat-fee” cases, which means that we charge one flat-fee for a specific project or amount of work to be performed. In most cases we require the fee to be paid up front.

Most personal injury and DTPA cases are “contingency” cases, which means that we only collect fees if we win your case. Our fee is then calculated as a percentage of the total amount we recover on your behalf.

I just need a “simple will.” Can you fill out a form for me?

At Izzo & Associates, we offer full estate planning services. When it comes time for you to think about drafting a will, your primary concern is making sure that your loved ones will be taken care of when you’re no longer here. Doing that is a much more complicated process, and involves more than just drafting a will. For example, many bank accounts or retirement accounts may not be controlled by a will, but instead could be controlled by a beneficiary designation you filled out when you started the account. Accordingly, when we meet with you to discuss estate planning services, we discuss with you all of the parts that go into making sure your loved ones are provided for. We don’t believe there is such a thing as a “simple will” at Izzo & Associates.

Why do I need an attorney if I’ve been in a car wreck?

When you’ve been the victim of a car accident, the opposing driver’s insurance company is not your friend. In the Texas legal system, their primary legal duty is to defend their customer, the person paying their premiums. Their other concern is to minimize the amount of money they pay out. Your well-being is NOT their concern. In Texas, the laws regarding accident victims have changed substantially in recent years, and without an attorney to help protect you against predatory insurance companies, you may not get a fair deal. One thing you may not know is that if your health insurance has paid for any of your medical bills, in most cases they will insist that they have a right to be paid back out of any settlement funds you receive. To make sure you don’t get taken advantage of, be sure to contact an experienced Texas personal injury attorney.
